Pastor’s Blog The Power of Friendships September 24, 2017
As people, we are created in the image of God. That means we are like Him (but we are not Him if you get my drift). God is a relational God and so we as His creation are by nature relational. This spiritual DNA causes us to seek others: we instinctively know that we need others outside of ourselves. This need drives us to search for meaningful relationships: with others and more importantly with God.
The two are not mutually exclusive. God often provides friends that help us along the journey. As I declared last week, in this year of “Forward” here at Sunshine Hills Church, we don’t want anyone to be by themselves. We commit to creating places and spaces for meaningful relationships to be built that will help all of us along the way.
This Sunday, I have the great honor of sharing with you all a wonderful friend in Dave Veach. He and his wife Windy have loved and supported us for almost 30 years. We have stood together in the good times and the challenging times.
My relationship with Dave reminds me of 1 Samuel 23:16-17:
And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. “Don’t be afraid,” he said.
Dave will be sharing the message of “Good News in a Fake News Culture.” I hope you will all be able to be a part of our gatherings this weekend. I pray that you will be encouraged and find strength in God as we worship together.
