Sunday September 4; The Rest of God

Pastor’s Blog: September 4, 2016 The Rest of God
The lazy days (what?) of summer are now behind us: holidays, summer projects, long days of sun, and a change from the normal (what is normal?) schedule. September ushers in the return of school, shorter daylight hours, and facing all the things we put off until the fall. We have enjoyed the wonderful and refreshing presence of the Lord in our services through our one service schedule. That can and will continue as we look forward to our new church season.
The good news? We can find rest and enjoyment in serving. That is the invitation of Jesus to us all found in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give your rest…my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
The promise is that as we serve Him, we will find rest for our souls. We contribute. We give and in giving we receive: so much more than we could ever give.
And, if we are growing weary and feeling spent, well, because life causes us to leak, the answer is being in tandem with the Lord. His yoke is easy because He is pulling with us, empowering us, partnering with us.
Our choice: do things, even good things, in our own strength and grow tired and weary or do what Jesus is doing and partner with Him. One is a burden: one brings “rest for our soul.”
I choose door number two: living in the rest of God. How about you?
