Sunday October 28 We Are Not God

Pastor’s Blog October 28, 2018 We Aren’t God
I like short and powerful statements. “What’s in your hand?” “Just do it!”
“We aren’t God.”
It seems obvious, but if you are like me, you lose track of this truth. I unconsciously think that I am responsible for everything. If I just work harder. If I just “willed” things to change they would.
To quote another pithy statement, “How’s that working for you?”
One of the reasons I pray, read my Bible and make being a part of a community of faith each week is that I need to be remember that God is God and I am not. “For You are great and do marvelous deeds; You alone are God” (Psalm 86:10).
A very large part of keeping this truth in perspective is being aware of what is my part and what is God’s part. What is within my control and what is out of my control?
What I can’t do:
• Solve all the world’s problems.
• Fix everything.
• Fix other people.
• Build His Church (see Matthew 16:18).
What I can do:
• Trust God
• Be obedient
• Be faithful
• Follow the example of Jesus: do only what the Father is doing (John 5:19).
Join me in reminding ourselves constantly that “we are not God.”
