Sunday May 28 Worship Through Giving

Pastor’s Blog May 28, 2017 “Worship Through Giving.”
Is this going to be the “tithing sermon” this weekend?
I find it strange that at a time when people are actively seeking financial information and how to “get ahead” through Financial Advisors that Christ followers can often be very closed to what the Bible has to say about finances and “our” resources. (Remember that God has entrusted His resources into our care?)
The Good News! The message of the Gospel addresses all aspects of living a life that God can bless. This includes the use of our time, our talents, and our treasures.
Our series is all about “A Heart of Worship” and giving is worship. Jesus made a direct link between our heart and our treasures: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
One reason people are highly resistant and suspicious when pastors talk about giving is the focus on “need” instead of blessing. God wants to bless us and He has invited us to partner with Him in seeking His kingdom established. The amazing truth is that as we obey and honor Him, He blesses us.
Another reason people choke on the subject of “giving” is too often limited only to giving of money. The spiritual truth is that giving is so much more. A heart of worship is a giving heart.
A word that has come alive for me is the word “generous.” Am I a generous person? Do I really believe that I cannot out give God? Do I believe that “My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory?”
I conclude with Proverbs 11:24-25 “One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”
