Sunday December 31 Heavenly Peace Moving Forward

Pastor’s Blog December 31, 2017 Heavenly Peace Moving Forward
“In Heavenly Peace”…our Christmas theme this year at Sunshine Hills Church. As we gather this last day of 2017, let’s remember that this heavenly peace is not just for Christmas time, something to be brought out of storage for display for a month and then packed back for another year and forgotten until another December rolls around.
Ephesians 2:14 proclaims that “Jesus is our Peace” and the last time I checked, He still is the same yesterday, today and forever. And, He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. He is mindful of us. He calls us His beloved children. And just like a nursing mother cannot forget her child, God knows where we are at every moment and is with us to guide us through the fiercest storm or the darkest night.
The Peace He comes to bring is different than our common understanding of peace in English which is defined by “an absence of conflict.” This type of peace is contingent upon circumstance and things outside of our control. And for those of us who lived through the historic “Cold War” that supposedly ended with the collapse of the Iron Curtain one brick of the Berlin Wall at a time in 1989, we understand that no shooting does not mean peace. Evil is the enemy of God’s Peace.
Jesus comes to bring us a very different peace: His Shalom. As Christians, we need to adopt a Shalom Peace that more completely expresses the peace of God that passes all understanding and guards our hearts and minds from worry and doubt.
So marching boldly into 2018, I encourage us all to live in the Shalom of Jesus and rest in His love. The alternative is, well, not peaceful.
Shalom dearly beloved…
Pastor Tom
