Sunday August 27 New

Pastor’s Blog New August 27, 2017
“New!”
“New and improved!”
Words we hear and misused often. The use and overuse of these words can cause us to echo the words of Solomon the cynic in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “There is nothing new under the sun.”
Wait a minute. What if there really was a “new” understanding for the word and concept of “new”?
The good news: there is!
God’s view of new and our understanding of new are very different.
In our world, new does not stay new. New material possessions get old fast. So do new ideas and initiatives giving way to a cynical view that brings disappointment and hopelessness.
God’s view of new is that His mercies are “new every morning.” God’s new continues to be new. His new never grows old: it never gets worn and tired.
The catch? Experiencing God’s newness, renewal, refreshing, and rejoicing comes only from walking with Him day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute , and moment by moment by moment. Practicing His presence.
God promises newness: a new life, a new day, a new song, a new and living way outlined in 2 Corinthians 3:6. We are invited to join Him in ministering a new covenant empowered by His Holy Spirit: one based on love and life and not on obligation and death.
It’s a new day! Will you join me in revelling in this new day God promises?
