Pastor’s Blog June 2, 2017 “ Be strong and courageous.”
When I read through the Bible, I take note how often God encourages His kids in two things: Be strong, and don’t be afraid. The admonishment is given to so called “giants of the faith” as well as ordinary people just like you and me.
Joshua was one of those “giants” who God reminded at least four times to be strong and courageous. Joshua had great faith, at least most of the time. And yet, he too struggled with the human tendency to be afraid. God didn’t disqualify him or scold him. God encouraged him.
That gives me great comfort and hope.
This is no empty promise. And, God gives Joshua the reason for him to be strong and courageous and not to fear. The reason? God promises to be with him (and by extension with us).”
He is there with us. We are not alone. He is never surprised at the challenges and opposition facing us. We take great comfort in the reality that “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.” Jesus, when walking amongst us said it like this: “In this world you have trouble, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.” Jesus adds “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
Today, in our one service at 10:00 AM due to many of our women being at their annual Retreat, each person will receive a card with these words from Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. God will be with you and will never forsake you.” I ask you to take a card and put it in a place where you will see it every day: on your bathroom mirror or in your car. I invite you to join me in praying the “Joshua Prayer” over the next 30 days.
Let’s see what God will do as we remind ourselves of His presence with us….always!
